STILL TO COME

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal have not secured the Premier League title since 2004 when they claimed the trophy without losing 1 single match in the entire season with Thierry Henry earning the top goal scorer as he bagged 30 goals.

Despite their outstanding success in their league of that year, they have failed to secure any other significant silverware for the past few years. The head coach Arsene Wenger was under-fire on  a number of occasions due to his decisions regarding his squad and transfer windows in which they have seen some of the more important and key players of the team exiting the club and not making a substantial replacement player.

The most noticeable players were Robin Van Persie and Cesc Fabregas. Even though the Dutch striker was proclaimed as the top goal-scorer during his last season with Arsenal a switch to Manchester United was still made.

Their nearest rivals Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have enjoyed more active transfer windows in comparison to Arsenal with more players being signed in as each season passed on meanwhile the complete opposite has been happening for the club that was founded in Woolwich.

It came as a shocker to many people when Mesut Ozil signed for in September 2nd of 2013 with a transfer fee believed to be around £42.5 million for a five-year deal.

Even though they have only made 1 big signing out of the latest years they have made a very surprising start of this season surpassing every other team in the Premier League and claiming the 1st spot with 22 points.

Although they are facing tough competition in their Champions League in their Group F as they share the same amount of points as Napoli and Borussia Dortmund. The next matches will be the difference in advancing into the next rounds of the tournament or being left out at these early stages.

ARSENAL CAN WIN

Arsenal speedster Theo Walcott has said that he believes that the club can win the Premier league title this season. It has been a long time since the club last tasted success in this competition. This has led to many believing that Arsenal are no longer the club they once were and it is primarily due to the transfer policy of manager Arsene Wenger. The Frenchman has resisted himself from buying top quality players. Instead, he has purchased young players in the hope of developing them into great players.

The problem with Arsenal over the years has been that the young players, who have developed into great ones, demanded a transfer as soon as they made it big. They did not see the opportunities of winning the title with Arsenal. In the last few years, though, the club has been bringing in experienced players like Lukas Podolski and Oliver Giroud. This season, they have been linked with several big names like Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain. Walcott believes that it will be only a matter of time before the club wins the Premier league once again.

He reckons that they may be able to do it in the coming season itself. Walcott had a brilliant campaign last time around and he will be looking to repeat his exploits.

“We need to remember those moments that we had and make sure we do it from the start, because we could be challenging for anything. We could beat anyone. We want that sort of fear factor, especially at the Emirates. It is quite frustrating at times, because we should have done that at the start of the season. Who knows where we would have been,” said the winger, who managed to get himself top of the Arsenal goalscoring charts last season with 21 goals.

IMPRESSIVE SEASON

England winger Theo Walcott had one of his impressive seasons for Arsenal last time around. He managed to get 21 goals in just 43 appearances for Arsenal as he also played as a striker in a number of occasions as well. He ended the speculation about his future by signing a new contract with Arsenal at a time when the club finds it extremely difficult to win a major trophy. The club have failed to win a major trophy in the last eight years. Despite this, Walcott is confident that Arsenal will soon be lifting major trophies.

He has said that Arsenal have always had the potential to win trophies, but they have not had the right mindset. From here on in, he thinks that the players should think only about winning trophies and not losing them. Arsenal have not won the Premier league since 2004, but Walcott believes that they should make the Premier league as their primary target in the 2013-14 season. Walcott started the last season on the bench, but his importance within the team grew rapidly during the second half of the campaign. He is hoping to start the new season as a striker, but he is likely to face competition from Gonzalo Higuain. Arsenal are in discussions with the Real Madrid striker.

“I think this Arsenal team can achieve anything. We should be competing for the Premier League every year, that’s our first priority. In every competition we can go far — as long as we believe we can. We need to realise how good we really are because, at times, we don’t think that. When we go a goal down you do see the players stepping up. And if we do that from the start we can beat anyone,” said the 24-year-old, who was linked with Chelsea and Manchester City before signing the contract.
