Arsene Wenger has claimed that his team are in little need of strengthening when it comes to the midfield since he believes that the return of Theo Walcott and Jack Wilshere will be more than sufficient to handle the needs of an entire campaign.
Both these players must huge chunks of last season, but even with that handicap, Arsenal were able to finish in the top three. There was even a possibility of winning the title for a small part of the campaign. More importantly, Arsenal finished the season with a trophy to their name.
Building on this campaign will be important for the gunners and it would also help them end the wait for the Premier League title. The wait has gone on for more than a decade and Wenger remains confident that the club will be challenging for the league title in the coming season. Walcott missed most of the entire 2014-15 season due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury. He marked his return with a goal in the FA Cup final while playing as the striker. After allowing Lukas Podolski to leave, there were suggestions that the gunners would enter into the transfer market for a midfielder for a striker.
Wenger, though, is ready to place his faith on the injury prone midfielders like Wilshere and Walcott.”The best way to strengthen other areas of the team is to get the players who did not play a lot last year and keep them fit.Walcott basically did not play until the end of the season, Wilshere has not played many games. Those two were very convincing at the end of the season so I hope that this season we can benefit from their participation and competitiveness. We lost Ozil and Giroud for long periods last year and they contributed a lot in the second part of the season,” said Wenger.
